art

is a strange thing.

in past times an artist was a person who could create beautiful things.

but now anyone can be an artist, as beauty has lost its value in the definition of art.

in these days of 'britart', beauty is rejected in favor of sensationalism.

all you have to do to be an artist is to describe your work as art.

in fact, the definition of art has drifted so much that ugly, unattractive things often attract the most credit.

unskilled persons of no artistic ability now find that they are capable of making ugly unattractive things,

and so they must qualify as artists.

and so, as just such a person, i find myself somewhat annoyed.

If 'britart' qualifies as art then i must be an artist.

I too can make ugly and unattractive things

and call them art

I have created many works of art

many of them unattractive

and poorly made

shoddy.
